9 Planets in Vedic Astrology: Complete Navagraha Guide

Understanding the cosmic forces that shape your destiny

20 min read Updated Jan 2026

The Navagraha - nine celestial bodies of Vedic astrology - form the cosmic council governing all aspects of human existence. From the radiant Sun representing our soul to the shadowy Ketu indicating past-life karma, each Graha carries specific energies that influence our personality, relationships, career, and spiritual journey.

Unlike Western astrology which uses only seven traditional planets plus outer planets, Vedic astrology includes Rahu and Ketu - the lunar nodes - as full-fledged Grahas with profound influence on destiny.

Understanding Grahas

The word "Graha" means "that which seizes or holds." This reflects the Vedic understanding that celestial bodies don't merely influence us - they actively grip and direct various aspects of our consciousness and life experiences.
