Mantra Guide: Navagraha Planetary Mantras

What this section covers

This section holds one mantra page for each of the nine grahas of Vedic astrology. Every page gives the Sanskrit text in Devanagari, a Roman transliteration you can read aloud, the plain meaning of the words, the beej (seed) form and the Gayatri form where one exists, plus the weekday, time of day, facing direction, japa count and offerings that tradition attaches to that planet.

It helps anyone who has been told to strengthen or pacify a planet, anyone passing through a hard period such as Sade Sati, a Manglik phase or a difficult mahadasha, and anyone who simply wants a short daily practice. Start with the graha that matches your need, learn the short namah mantra first, then move to the beej or Gayatri form once the sounds are steady.

Mantras of the Two Shadow Grahas

Rahu and Ketu are the lunar nodes. They hold no physical body, so their mantras are chanted after dark and their remedies lean on donation and restraint rather than on strength.

Quick Reference: Day, Direction and Count

The beej mantra column shows the seed form of each graha mantra. Full text, meaning and the longer Gayatri form are on each planet page.

How to Use These Pages

  1. Find the graha that rules your concern, or the graha running in your current dasha or transit.
  2. Open its page and read the meaning before you chant, so the words carry sense and not only sound.
  3. Begin with the short namah form. Move to the beej or Gayatri form when the pronunciation is comfortable.
  4. Keep the same day, the same time and the same count. Regularity matters more than volume.
  5. Pair the japa with the donation listed on the page. Vedic remedy joins recitation with an act of giving.
Note: mantra practice supports a chart reading, it does not replace one. If you are unsure which planet is troubling you, cast the chart first and choose the mantra from what the chart shows.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How many times should a planetary mantra be chanted?
A full mala of 108 repetitions suits every graha. Each planet also has a shorter traditional count: 7 for Surya, 11 for Chandra, 7 for Mangal, 17 for Budh, 16 for Guru, 16 for Shukra, 23 for Shani, 18 for Rahu and 7 for Ketu. Pick one count and keep it the same every day.
Which day is best for each graha mantra?
Sunday for Surya, Monday for Chandra, Tuesday for Mangal, Wednesday for Budh, Thursday for Guru, Friday for Shukra and Saturday for Shani. Rahu mantras are chanted on Wednesday or Saturday night, and Ketu mantras on Tuesday or Saturday. Sunrise is used for Surya, Mangal, Budh and Guru, and after sunset for Chandra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu.
Which planet mantra should I chant?
Choose the graha that rules the part of life you need help with, or the graha running in your current dasha or transit. Shani during Sade Sati, Mangal for Manglik Dosha, Budh for study and business, Guru for marriage and children, Shukra for relationships. A birth chart reading narrows the choice further.
Do I need initiation to chant a beej mantra?
The simple namah forms, such as Om Sham Shanaischaraya Namah, are open to anyone and can be started today. A long beej japa taken as a fixed vow of many thousands of repetitions is traditionally begun with a teacher, mainly so that pronunciation, count and discipline stay correct through the whole vow.
