The short version
Necessary storage keeps you signed in and keeps the site secure. It is always on.
Preferences storage is off until you turn it on. Measurement and advertising depend on where you are. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they are off until you accept in the cookie banner. Everywhere else they run, with a notice, and you can turn them off at any time. You can change your mind at any time.
What we use
- Necessary: sign-in session, security tokens, load balancing, and the record of your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
- Preferences: your language, your theme, and settings you have chosen, so the site looks the same next visit.
- Measurement: analytics that tell us which pages are used and where the site is slow or broken. This includes session recordings and heatmaps that show how people scroll and click.
- Marketing (shown as Advertising in the cookie settings): conversion measurement and remarketing, so we can tell whether an advertisement worked and show our own ads to people who visited GrahaGuru.
Consent
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the banner asks before any non-necessary storage is set. Consent is per category, it is recorded with a timestamp, and refusing is as easy as accepting. Everywhere else, a short notice tells you what runs and where to turn it off.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the Cookie settings button at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing stops future use and removes the IDs stored in your browser. It does not delete measurements already collected in aggregate.
Third parties
Measurement and marketing categories load tools operated by third parties. Those tools set their own storage under their own policies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they load only after you accept. Everywhere else they load unless you opt out.
Who sets them
The Privacy Policy explains what each tool does with your data.
- Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads, run by Google (Measurement and Advertising).
- Google Signals, a Google Analytics feature we have turned on. It can add data from Google users who allowed ad personalisation.
- Microsoft Clarity, run by Microsoft (Measurement). Session recordings and heatmaps.
- Meta pixel, run by Meta (Advertising).
- Atlassian Statuspage, on Help pages only. It sets no cookie.
- Cloudflare, for security and delivery (Necessary). It also tells us your approximate country, so we show the right cookie choices.
How long
Session storage is deleted when you close the browser. Persistent storage lasts up to 13 months. After that we ask again in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and show the notice again everywhere else. You can clear all of it in your browser settings at any time.
How to opt out
More ways to opt out, including in the app and by email, are in the Privacy Policy under "How to opt out".
- Use the Cookie settings button at the bottom of every page.
- Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. We treat it as an opt-out of advertising for that browser.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- Change what Google uses for ads at adssettings.google.com.
Apps
The GrahaGuru mobile apps do not use browser cookies. What they store on the device is described in the GrahaGuru Mobile Privacy Policy.
