What is Antardasha?

अंतर्दशा - Antardasha (Sub-Period)

The Sub-Period within Mahadasha

Antardasha Definition

Antardasha (Sanskrit: अंतर्दशा, "inner period"), also called Bhukti, is the sub-period within a Mahadasha. Each Mahadasha is divided into 9 Antardashas, one for each planet. While the Mahadasha lord sets the overall theme, the Antardasha lord modifies and fine-tunes the effects during that specific sub-period.

How Antardasha Works

Combined Effects

The Antardasha planet acts as a "filter" for the Mahadasha. For example, in Jupiter Mahadasha - Saturn Antardasha, Jupiter's expansive energy is tempered by Saturn's discipline and delays.

Duration Calculation

Antardasha duration is proportional to each planet's Mahadasha years. In a 16-year Jupiter Mahadasha, Saturn Antardasha lasts ~2.5 years (19/120 x 16).

Sequence

Antardashas follow the Dasha sequence starting from the Mahadasha lord. Jupiter Mahadasha: Jupiter AD → Saturn AD → Mercury AD → Ketu AD → Venus AD → Sun AD → Moon AD → Mars AD → Rahu AD.

Example: Venus Mahadasha Antardashas

Venus Mahadasha (20 years) contains these Antardashas:
